Why has Israel’s NSO changed its WhatsApp spyware attack strategy?

Earlier this month, Meta announced that it had detected a new spear-phishing attempt linked to the Israeli surveillance group NSO, notoriously famous for developing the Pegasus spyware. The attempt targeted WhatsApp users through a phishing campaign, in what Meta said violated a previous court order barring the Israeli firm from targeting the platform and its users.

Laëtitia Farinacci besetzt neue Edna-Carter-Professur in Würzburg

Should you upload a photo of yourself on an AI platform? The short answer is no, and here’s why

Every few months, a new AI image trend takes over social media. In early 2025, millions uploaded their photos to AI chatbots to get a Studio Ghibli-style portrait. By Ramadan 2026, the trend turned devotional with people decorating their photos with lanterns, calligraphy, and more.

Asia Is Sprinting on AI. Europe Is Still Tying Its Laces.

Schutz mittels Digital Services Act: Die Durchsetzung von Kinderrechten in digitalen Diensten

With the adoption of the Digital Services Act (DSA) and the Digital Markets Act (DMA) in 2022, the European Commission embarked on a paradigm shift. It created a comprehensive framework that establishes rights for users of digital intermediary services—such as social media platforms or marketplaces for private listings—vis-à-vis the providers of these services. The protection of children and adolescents is a particular focus here, because although their daily lives and social interactions are heavily influenced by social media, these environments are anything but child-friendly.

AI and the Value of Human Authorship: The Fight for Copyright

The training data for generative AI systems contains millions upon millions of copyrighted works. The rights holders of this material were neither asked if they consented to this form of use nor were they compensated for it. Many celebrate the fact that texts, images, and musical works are publicly available on the internet as an achievement for free education and participation in humanity’s cultural wealth. Of course, no one thought about the for-profit companies that develop large language models on this basis.
