The Wikimedia Foundation is a nonprofit based in San Francisco, California, that operates numerous projects and websites dedicated to free and open knowledge, including Wikipedia, a free online encyclopedia anyone can edit. These websites are built by thousands of people around the world, and read by hundred of millions of people approximately 300 languages, making Wikipedia and its sister projects some of the most visited websites in the world. In operating and supporting these collaborative projects, we are guided by our mission “to empower and engage people around the world to collect and develop educational content under a free license or in the public domain, and to disseminate it effectively and globally.
