The Winning Intelligence Series: A New Theory of the Firm in the Age of AI

The Portulans Institute in Washington, DC, in collaboration with the Communication Studies Division in the School of Communication (SOC) at American University, invites you to a forum entitled “Empowering Democracy”.

Zum Wintersemester 2004/05 führte die Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU) als erste Hochschule im süddeutschen Raum ein Frühstudium ein. Dieses ermöglicht es besonders begabten und interessierten Schülerinnen und Schülern, ab der 10. Klasse – in Sonderfällen auch ab der 9. Klasse – reguläre Lehrveranstaltungen zu belegen, an Prüfungen teilzunehmen und die erbrachten Leistungen für ein späteres Studium anrechnen zu lassen.

Wenn Pflanzenwurzeln verletzt werden – beispielsweise durch Insekten –, bricht der hydraulische Druck in der Wurzel zusammen, und diese Druckwelle breitet sich mit hoher Geschwindigkeit im gesamten Wurzelsystem aus. In benachbarten Wurzeln erkennen winzige Proteine, die wie kleine mechanische Drucksensoren funktionieren, die Veränderung und erzeugen elektrische sowie Ca²⁺-Signale.
Letztendlich löst die Verletzung in den benachbarten Wurzeln so die Synthese von Stresshormonen aus, wodurch diese sich auf den bevorstehenden Angriff vorbereiten.

Sprachentwicklungsstörungen (SES) betreffen rund acht Prozent aller Kinder. Sie können es ihnen erschweren, in der Schule zu lernen, sich mit anderen zu verständigen und am gemeinsamen Alltag teilzunehmen. Kinder mit SES haben beispielsweise Probleme damit, Sätze zu bilden oder zu verstehen, was andere ihnen sagen – ihre sprachlichen Fähigkeiten bleiben deutlich hinter denen ihrer Altersgenossen zurück.
