Together against violence and discrimination
From November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to December 10, International Human Rights Day, the annual “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence” campaign takes place. Violence includes not only physical harm, but also sexual and gender-based harassment and discrimination.
Sexual and gender-based harassment are unwanted behaviors that undermine a person’s dignity based solely on their gender.

Whether we accept or reject cookies when browsing, sign a consent form at the doctor’s office agreeing to the processing of our data, or agree to the new terms and conditions when updating our smartphone—we are always dealing with data protection consents. On the one hand, data protection sets limits on data sharing. On the other hand, it can also be seen as a pull factor for data sharing.

On 2 December, Professor Elda Brogi took part in a public hearing organised by the Committee on Culture and Education at the European Parliament.  Professor Brogi presented the preliminary results of a CMPF study on the implementation of the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA) across Member States.

We congratulate David Jamnig BSc., who works as a study assistant in our Software Engineering Research Group, on receiving the Best Performer Award 2024/2025 and a Teaching Award in the category “Best Tutorium”.

SKIMP Art/AdobestockA group of prominent scientists, nominated by the Academy Networks of SAPEA, part of the Scientific Advice Mechanism to the European Commission, is delivering today a report on the role  of artificial intelligence in emergency and crisis management. Among its members is Andrej Zwitter, currently Professor of Political Theory and Governance at the University of Groningen. In February 2026, he will move to the University of Klagenfurt, where he will hold the Chair of Human Sciences and Digitalisation and head the current Digital Age Research Center.

I met James Gorgen, a public functionary at the Brazilian Ministry of Development and Industry, over an online call I did from Rio de Janeiro while he was connecting from Argentina where he currently lives. James has long been a thoughtful commentator on digital developments and continues to curate an intellectually stimulating presence on LinkedIn, X, and especially on his personal blog.
