I am always amazed at how commoning reaches into the most unlikely realms of life. The latest example that I’ve discovered is jazz performance! For the moment, leave aside the idea of jazz as an artform that is fundamentally about commoning – improvised collaboration, individual artistry that flowers within an ensemble, being attuned to the present moment.
Let’s just consider concert production as a commons.
Facing oncoming climate disaster, some argue for “Deep Adaptation”—that we must prepare for inevitable collapse. However, this orientation is dangerously flawed. It threatens to become a self-fulfilling prophecy by diluting the efforts toward positive change. What we really need right now is Deep Transformation. There is still time to act: we must acknowledge this moral imperative.

La generación de evidencia para las políticas públicas y para el sistema educacional es uno de los lineamientos fundamentales de este centro universitario que en estos primeros 10 años de vida ha formado a investigadores en la materia, realizado alianzas y trabajos colaborativos con instituciones nacionales y extranjeras, así como generar modelos, proyectos e insumos que actualmente se aplican en las aulas del país. El CIAE es además el único centro de excelencia basal del país en ciencias sociales.
Un análisis que reunió a investigadores de distintas latitudes, en el que participó el profesor de la Facultad de Ciencias Veterinarias y Pecuarias (FAVET), Cristóbal Briceño, indicó que un parapoxvirus sería la causa probable de esta enfermedad podal que causa dolor intenso, inflamación, pérdida parcial o completa de las pezuñas y, en muchos casos, la muerte. Cerca del 40 por ciento de los animales afectados murieron, lo que sugiere que el virus podría representar una amenaza considerable para la conservación de esta especie vulnerable.
