Das antimikrobielle Potenzial von CRISPR-Cas-Systemen ist vielversprechend. Allerdings ist noch wenig darüber bekannt, wie sich die unterschiedlichen CRISPR-Nukleasen am besten einsetzen lassen. Ein internationales Team unter der Leitung von Forschenden des Helmholtz-Instituts für RNA-basierte Infektionsforschung (HIRI) in Würzburg hat sich dieser Wissenslücke nun angenommen: Am Beispiel von multiresistenten und hypervirulenten Bakterien hat es erstmals systematisch CRISPR-basierte antimikrobielle Wirkstoffe untersucht.
