Project Of The Day: Decentralized Society Research Project

In January, I began a series of MOOCs on social entrepreneurship. One of the courses focuses on Business Models. My interest is in applying the Open Value Network Model to social entrepreneurship. All of the courses emphasize “scaling” the business. I suggested previously that developing economies of scope might be a better aim. The courses also unanimously advocate Lean processes.  In the Lean Startup approach, the social entrepreneur develops hypotheses, builds iterative prototypes, and tests them with real people. “You must leave the office,” is the mantra.

The Global Internet Report: Consolidation in the Internet Economy

The 2017 Global Internet Report: Paths to Our Digital Future focused attention on the significant potential of the Internet for innovation and sustainable development, but without denying or shirking the challenges it also introduces. IPv6 Security Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

The Internet Society recognises that global deployment of the IPv6 protocol is paramount to accommodate the present and future growth of the Internet. Given the scale at which IPv6 must be deployed, it is important that the possible security implications of IPv6 are well understood and considered during the design and deployment of IPv6 networks, rather than as an afterthought.

Leading with Wikipedia: A brand proposal for 2030

A few months ago, people across the world were asked “What is Wikimedia?”
Almost no one answered correctly.
But while “Wikimedia” may not be widely recognized outside our movement, there is a clear way to use our existing brands to better bring in the billions of people who have yet to join us in our vision. We can center our brand system around Wikipedia, one of the world’s best-known brands.

We’re changing our password policies—Here are six rules for selecting a good password

You may remember a time before password standards, when passwords like “password” were used. As countless news stories have shown us since, those passwords were not ideal—but the recommended solution of creating complex passwords for each website has created problems of its own.[1]

Why sustainability is no longer enough, yet still very important on the road to regeneration

Redesigning the human impact on Earth, bioregion by bioregion

For many people achieving sustainability might seem already like a visionary goal that is difficult to reach. Yet, we need to do even better to respond adequately to the converging crises ahead.

Just looking at the situation with regard to climate change alone, we have to now face the reality that we are in the midst of dangerous run-away (self-reinforcing) climate change. The window of opportunity to avoid catastrophic irreversible climate change is closing.

Jamundi, Colombia: Trade union leads defense of water as a human right

In the municipality of Jamundí, Colombia, local politicians were pushing to privatize the water service provided by public utility ACUAVALLE by waging a media campaign to discredit it. If successful, this would have seriously affected access to water for local people, 94% of whom are on low-incomes. However led by the utility’s union, Sintracuavalle, pressure from local people led to a shelving of a public-private water partnership that would have turned water into a commodity.
