Laut Weltgesundheitsbehörde (WHO) stellen nichtübertragbare Krankheiten wie Typ II Diabetes oder Herz-Kreislauf- Erkrankungen die Haupttodesursache weltweit dar. Vier Risikofaktoren spielen bei Entstehung und Verlauf eine wesentliche Rolle: Rauchen, ungesunde Ernährung, riskanter Alkoholkonsum und Bewegungsmangel. Bis 2025 sollen diese veränderbaren Risikofaktoren im Rahmen des Global Action Plans der WHO in sechs Schritten reduziert werden. Hierbei ist die Entwicklung von gesundheitsfördernden Lebensumwelten besonders wichtig.
