A new kind of learning space for a new kind of governance

The first Sandbox Summer School took place in Lisbon, Portugal, from June 30 to July 4, 2025. Hosted with the support of Católica Global School of Law (CGSL), the Universidade Católica Portuguesa’s hub for transnational legal education, the program brought together regulators, civic technologists, policymakers, and researchers came together not to attend a conference, but to build one of the most promising tools in digital governance: the sandbox.

As Team “Mathe läuft bei uns”, the sporty mathematicians Teresa Rauscher, Johannes Schmucker, and Angelika Wiegele took on the USI Team Run Challenge 2025. The event was held as part of the Klagenfurter Altstadlauf, where participants had to complete a 5 km course in temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius. The USI awarded a prize to the team with the smallest difference between their own time and the average time of all teams.

On Thursday this week, the Wikimedia Foundation’s research team sent a note to the Wikimedia research mailing list asking for feedback on their “Guidance for NPOV Research on Wikipedia” [1].
