Bernard Lietaer was one of the great thinkers about money in our time, who played a role in co-designing various important monetary experiments, and could integrate our current moment in a larger history of value exchange. Q: What do you do when you see a little button on a webpage or app screen that says I agree?
A: Click the button.
The familiar and incredibly simple click-to-agree mechanism is ubiquitous. We encounter it throughout our digital lives. It is nothing less than the “legal backbone” of the internet, app stores, e-commerce and so much more.
Yet electronic contracting and the illusion of consent-by-clicking are a sham.

For many years, the Wikimedia Foundation’s vision statement has asked us to imagine how the world would be changed if every single person on Earth had access to the “sum of all knowledge”—but because Wikipedia is a web project, only those with internet access could reach that knowledge. That’s left billions behind.
