Imagine how much the Internet has changed our lives in the last few decades. Today, thanks to the Internet, we can communicate with anyone around the world, instantaneously, reliably and cheaply. This enables us not only to be close to our friends and family that may be far away but also to bridge the knowledge gap that we have with the developed world.
Michel Bauwens: Mapping is important to the transition towards a more ecologically-balanced and socially-just commons-centric society, as it brings visibility and conscious awareness to the great diversity of initiatives taking place, and can also be a community-building tool. Here is a recent and very professionally undertaken mapping effort for the Italian commons, undertaken by our friends at LabGov.
The internet and near-costless scaling of digital has allowed the concentration of too much power in too few hands. Our systems for accountability can’t or won’t keep up. By building alternatives, the decentralisation of networks, governance and control are a promising antidote.

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly technology evolves. In 2007, the iPhone was released and dramatically transformed the way we communicate. Then, less than three years later, the first iPad hit consumer shelves and revolutionized personal computing. Now, Internet service providers around the world are racing to deploy the infrastructure needed to fuel our transition into smart cities of increasingly connected homes and driverless cars.

‘Ana Peraica’s Culture of the Selfie: Self-Representation in Contemporary Visual Culture is an outstanding source for art researchers and students, photographers, humanists, and media theorists. It contributes to diverse fields including but far from limited to cultural studies and psychology. It reaches beyond a chronological overview of analyzed phenomena and analyses the contemporary condition through theory and artwork. Technical aspects are depicted in detail and supported by excellent examples.
