Why are so many zones of the world descending into chaos and confusion? There is no single reason, of course, but the French scholar of modernity, Bruno Latour, has a compelling overarching theory. In his new book, Down to Earth: Politics in the New Climatic Regime (Polity), Latour argues that climate change, by calling into question the once-universal dream of “development” and globalization, is leaving a huge void in our consciousness.

shutdown is a test of an Internet sovereignty law being considered in Russia,
but it’s unclear how the country will actually accomplish the disconnect.
In situations of societal crisis – such as a long black out – people in need of particular forms of assistance are mostly neglected. This is the case, for example, for care-recipients living in their homes and being cared by their social environment or a mobile nursing service. The articles of this book seek to increase our understanding what kind of assistance people in need of care or assistance need and how disaster management structures can contribute to this.

Letzte Woche informierte der Bau- und Liegenschaftsbetrieb NRW (BLB NRW), der Eigentümer der Gebäude der HHU, die Universität, dass bei Sanierungsmaßnahmen, die der BLB NRW an den Gebäuden 23.31 und 23.32 durchführt, bauliche Schäden an den Fluchtbalkonen dieser Gebäude festgestellt wurden. Eine Nutzung dieser Fluchtbalkone wurde deshalb untersagt und gleichzeitig wurden Maßnahmen für eine Gewährleistung der sicheren Entfluchtung getroffen.

Let’s look at what’s happening in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and the upcoming IETF 104 meeting in the area of Internet infrastructure resilience. As usual, my focus here is primarily on the routing and forwarding planes, and specifically routing security and unwanted traffic of Distributed Denial of Service Attacks (DDoS) attacks. There’s interesting and important work underway at the IETF that can help addressing problems in both areas.

Im Sonderforschungsbereich 1208 "Identität und Dynamik von Membransystemen - von Molekülen bis zu zellulären Funktionen" werden essenzielle biologische Prozesse sowohl an einzelnen Molekülen in Membranen als auch im Zusammenspiel zwischen den unterschiedlichen Membransystemen erforscht.
Das Glücksspiel und seine gesetzlichen Grenzen werden öffentlich und politisch diskutiert. Die neue Einrichtung will sich nun wissenschaftlich damit auseinandersetzen. Es erforscht die gesellschaftliche und volkswirtschaftliche Bedeutung von unterschiedlichen Formen des Glücksspiels sowie deren rechtliche Regulierung. Die Bochumer Juristen gründeten das Institut, Geschäftsführer ist Prof. Dr. Julian Krüper vom Bochumer Lehrstuhl für Öffentliches Recht, Verfassungstheorie und Interdisziplinäre Rechtsforschung. Eröffnet wurde die Einrichtung am 21. März 2019.
