Eine zentrale Rolle spielt dabei ein elektrisches Signal, das sogenannte Aktionspotenzial. Wenn beispielsweise eine Fliege eines der sechs Sinneshaare der Venusfliegenfalle berührt, wird solch ein Aktionspotenzial generiert.
