In Würzburg soll mittelfristig ein neues Max-Planck-Institut entstehen und zwei Abteilungen der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft (MPG) angesiedelt werden. Dazu haben der Freistaat Bayern und die Max-Planck-Gesellschaft heute (21. Oktober 2025) eine wichtige Grundlage geschaffen und ein entsprechendes „Memorandum of Understanding“ in München unterzeichnet. Aktuell wird für das geplante Institut ein wissenschaftliches Konzept durch die MPG erarbeitet. In diesem Max-Planck-internen Beratungsprozess werden Zukunftsthemen rund um die Immunmedizin und Nukleinsäure-Technologien in den Blick genommen.
Voices, the European Festival of Journalism and Media Freedom, returns to Florence at Teatro del Maggio Musicale on 10–12 March 2026. Following the success of its debut in Florence and the second edition in Zagreb, which drew more than 2,000 participants, the festival returns with renewed energy, building on what worked, sharpening its focus on media freedom, and raising the bar with new partners and formats.
What happens when rural Colombian girls know more about AI companions than digital literacy educators do?
I was recently in rural Colombia running our “Click” program at beBold, an organization I co-founded to equip people with tools to be bold in a changing and noisy world. Our Click program seeks to develop critical socioemotional, digital and life design skills in youth, particularly girls and young women, helping them become bold digital citizens who can navigate technology responsibly while strengthening their in-person human relationships.

Ukrainian linguist Olena Synchak is investigating how this is expressed in the use of feminine terms. Tonight’s attack on Italian investigative journalist Sigfrido Ranucci, whose car was destroyed by an explosive device, is a stark reminder of the growing threats faced by journalists – even in Western Europe. Ranucci, who hosts RAI’s investigative programme Report and is a long-time exposer of corruption and organised crime, has previously received many threats because of his work. That the attack occurred on the anniversary of Daphne Caruana Galizia’s murder adds a chilling dimension, reminding us of the persistent dangers that investigative journalists face in Europe.
