Bei einem Patienten war die Infektion bereits vor der Verlegung nach Düsseldorf bestätigt. Bei der zweiten Person aus dem engen persönlichen Umfeld des Patienten liegt nun auch ein positives Testergebnis vor. Das UKD steht über den Verlauf der Erkrankungen im engen Kontakt mit den Gesundheitsbehörden und Ministerien, die auch zu Neuigkeiten in Bezug auf diesen Erreger informieren.

Das Robert-Koch-Institut (RKI) schätzt die Gefahr für die Gesundheit der Bevölkerung in Deutschland auch nach den heute vorliegenden Informationen als gering bis mäßig ein. Dennoch empfiehlt die Hochschulleitung vorsorglich, dass alle Personen nach einer kürzlich angetretenen Chinareise für 14 Tage zuhause bleiben – und etwaige dienstliche Aufgaben wenn möglich von dort aus wahrnehmen. Grundsätzlich sollten alle, bei denen eine ansteckende grippeähnliche Erkrankung vorliegt, davon absehen, zur Universität zu kommen.

Learning from our past and reevaluating our present, a recent World Affairs Council event opened discussion for what’s next in the world of information access.

Judith Donath, a BKC advisor, urged those in attendance to identify “cause vs. blame” when talking about the internet. Beyond external evaluation, she said a deeper question for everyone to consider is why the truth is important to their own self interest. She highlighted the contradiction of people using the internet not to search for scientific truth, but to seek validation of what they believe, or want to believe.
