The EARN IT Act Is Unconstitutional. First Up, the First Amendment.

The disastrous EARN IT Act bill is coming up for a hearing Wednesday morning in the Senate Judiciary Committee, where it’s been introduced as Senate bill S. 3398 (though, at this time, still no bill text – see here for that). In advance of that hearing, I have a few thoughts that go beyond my usual angle (encryption) to discuss the bill’s serious constitutional defects.

From clinical student to clinical instructor

Clinical instructor Kendra Albert talks about their time as a student in the Cyberlaw Clinic, their current work, and what they’re the proudest of in their time at the Clinic:

The Week in Internet News: New Bill May Weaken Encryption

Unintended consequences: New legislation in the U.S. Senate to crack down on child exploitation online may lead to limits on encryption, many critics say. The EARN IT Act would give Attorney General William Barr the authority to create new rules to protect children, potentially including encryption backdoors, as Barr as called for, Wired.com reports.

Im Januar 2020 hat der Bundestag eine Reform der gesetzlichen Regelungen zur Organspende diskutiert und beschlossen. Die Abgeordneten stimmten für eine Weiterentwicklung der bereits vorher bestehenden Zustimmungslösung und gegen einen ebenfalls eingebrachten Gesetzentwurf, der eine Widerspruchslösung in der Organspende einführen wollte.

Forschung mit Potenzial gesucht

Gesucht werden innovative Verbundvorhaben mit hohem Zukunftspotenzial und möglichst interdisziplinärem Ansatz. Bestehende Profilbereiche werden verstärkt oder neue Forschungsfelder erschlossen. Das Programm bietet eine Anschubfinanzierung für spätere Verbundanträge bei Förderorganisationen wie der DFG, bei Stiftungen oder in EU-Programmen.
