Die Lehrstühle für Englische Sprachwissenschaft und Globale Urbanisierung und Fernerkundung der Uni Würzburg haben dazu jetzt an einer neuen Studie gearbeitet. RNA-Moleküle sind echte Alleskönner. Sie tragen die genetische Information aus der DNA in der Zelle weiter. Sie regulieren die Aktivität von Genen. Und einige von ihnen wirken katalytisch: Genau wie Enzyme ermöglichen sie biochemische Reaktionen, die von allein nur schwer oder gar nicht ablaufen würden. RNA-Moleküle, die das leisten können, heißen Ribozyme.
Das Team von Chemieprofessorin Claudia Höbartner von der Julius-Maximilians-Universität (JMU) Würzburg präsentiert im Journal Nature Chemistry jetzt ein neu entdecktes Ribozym, das den Namen SAMURI erhielt.
