Twentieth edition of Wikimania celebrates humans who make Wikipedia possible

Nairobi, Kenya, 6 August 2025 – This week, Wikimania 2025, the twentieth edition of the flagship annual conference that celebrates Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects, and the global community of volunteers (Wikimedians) who make it possible, will take place in Kenya. 

Vianney Kambale receives Best Paper Award at IEEE Conference on Information Communications Technology and Society

KKEarly Career Researcher Vianney Kambale received the award at the conference, which took place from 23 to 25 July 2025 in Zimbali, South Africa. Vianney Kambale, who is conducting research as a doctoral student at the Department of Smart Systems Technologies  in the Transportation Informatics research group, is attempting to look into the future using data from yesterday and today.

Mathe läuft bei uns

As Team “Mathe läuft bei uns”, the sporty mathematicians Teresa Rauscher, Johannes Schmucker, and Angelika Wiegele took on the USI Team Run Challenge 2025. The event was held as part of the Klagenfurter Altstadlauf, where participants had to complete a 5 km course in temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius. The USI awarded a prize to the team with the smallest difference between their own time and the average time of all teams.

Wer in Würzburg Zahnmedizin studiert, benötigt im Schnitt 300 Übungszähne, um die verschiedenen Techniken und Behandlungen zu üben und später Patientinnen und Patienten sicher, effizient und erfolgreich behandeln zu können.  

Summer internship at the Department of Mathematics

During the four-week summer internship, students gain insight into academic and scientific life at the Institute of Mathematics. In targeted input phases, combined with self-study phases and group work, they explore accessible mathematical topics.

In addition, they gain initial experience with programming and learn basic skills in Python and LaTeX. They design presentation formats based on what they have learned for their peers, which are used in school lectures and workshops.
