As we mark World Press Freedom Day today, the European University Institute acknowledges the critical role that a free and independent media plays in upholding democracy and stresses the need to promote a safe working environment for journalists and media professionals. 

Update (30 June 2023): Submissions of nominations for the Open the Knowledge Journalism Awards are now closed. The screening and selection process will be underway beginning July 2023 and the awardees will be announced in November 2023, at WikiIndaba, the Africa Regional Community Conference for the Wikimedia movement. Between 3 May and 30 June, over 2,000 submissions were received from across the African continent.

Therefore, the seminar "Thinking about war from the perspective of peace" in the winter semester 2022/2023 aimed to take a more differentiated look at the topic with recourse to political science and philosophical texts: What forms of violence exist? What distinguishes war from "slow violence"? What is real peace? Can pacifism be immoral?

April 2023 wird der Tag der Immunologie unter dem Motto „Immunologie im Dialog mit der öffentlichen Gesundheit“ gefeiert – aus diesem Anlass fand im Vorfeld ein dialogischer Austausch zu aktuellen Erkenntnissen und Potenzialen der Immunforschung statt. Forschende aus verschiedenen Fachbereichen der Max-Planck-Forschungsgruppe und dem Universitätsklinikum Würzburg gewährten einen Blick hinter die Kulissen und zeigten, was die Immunologie in den Bereichen Systemimmunologie, Neonatologie, Onkologie und Kardiologie noch leisten kann.
