ShareCast Episode 5 – Data, Forests, and Timber

When we go for walks in the forest, we try to leave our digitized everyday lives behind us but work in forestry has long since been digitized. Data is collected by sensor networks, drones, satellites, and, above all, large forestry machines such as harvesters. This data is of great interest for increasing the efficiency of the timber industry and optimizing planning, for example in sawmills, but above all for protecting the forest and adapting it to the intensifying climate change. However, there are numerous obstacles to sharing this data.

Keeping information reliable in the digital age: Lessons from Wikipedia

In the past few years societies everywhere have seen seismic shifts in how information online is created and shared.
