Tonight’s attack on Italian investigative journalist Sigfrido Ranucci, whose car was destroyed by an explosive device, is a stark reminder of the growing threats faced by journalists – even in Western Europe. Ranucci, who hosts RAI’s investigative programme Report and is a long-time exposer of corruption and organised crime, has previously received many threats because of his work. That the attack occurred on the anniversary of Daphne Caruana Galizia’s murder adds a chilling dimension, reminding us of the persistent dangers that investigative journalists face in Europe.

Digitalisierung ist nach wie vor ein zentrales Thema unserer Zeit – dies geht aus dem aktuellen Digitalbarometer des Bayerischen Forschungsinstituts für Digitale Transformation (bidt) der Bayerischen Akademie der Wissenschaften hervor. Die Studie zeigt eine relativ große Offenheit in Deutschland für neue technische Entwicklungen. Digitale Kompetenzen werden von über 80 Prozent der Menschen im privaten Alltag für wichtig erachtet. Gleichzeitig gibt eine Mehrheit von 61 Prozent an, dass dem Thema Digitalisierung in Deutschland zu wenig Aufmerksamkeit gewidmet wird.

Die gerade erschiene Ausgabe des renommierten THE World University Ranking vergleicht 2.191 Universitäten aus 115 Ländern und Gebieten. Die Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU) belegt darin Platz 179 im weltweiten Vergleich, Platz 17 in Deutschland und Platz 3 in Bayern. Damit reiht sie sich unter den besten Universitäten des Landes ein.
