Kakao-Bauern betrachten die Insekten oft als Schädlinge, weil sie Blätter, Blüten und Früchte abschneiden und damit den Ernteertrag verringern können. Häufig versuchen die Bauern deshalb, die Ameisen mit Pestiziden unter Kontrolle zu bringen.
