Wegen der komplexen und etwa bei der Hälfte der Alleinerziehenden jahrelang anhaltenden vielfachen Belastungen bestehen bei alleinerziehenden Müttern und Vätern erhöhte Häufigkeitsraten für psychosomatische Erkrankungen, chronische Schmerzen und psychische Störungen. Vor allem Depressionen, Angststörungen und Rauchen treten bei Alleinerziehenden zwei- bis dreimal so häufig auf wie bei Eltern in Partnerschaften.
