Else Kröner Center Würzburg-Mwanza geht in die Verlängerung

Vor über sechs Jahren hat das „Else Kröner Center for Advanced Medical & Medical Humanitarian Studies Würzburg – Mwanza“ (EKC) seine Arbeit aufgenommen. Mittlerweile ist das Zentrum zu einem festen Bestandteil der deutsch-tansanischen Kooperationen zwischen den medizinischen Fakultäten der Universität Würzburg und der Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences in Mwanza avanciert. Es gilt an beiden Universitäten als Leuchtturmprogramm für die deutsch-afrikanische Zusammenarbeit.

Genau das trifft auf den Molekularbiologen Dr. Tom Beneke (35) vom Biozentrum der Universität Würzburg zu. Der ERC zeichnet ihn mit einem der 1,5 Millionen Euro schweren Grants aus, um seine Forschung zu Leishmanien und der von ihnen verursachten Erkrankung weiter voranzutreiben.
