To train AI models that perform well in real-world applications, you need high-quality data—and as much of it as possible. In principle, AI can be used in all industries, fields, and environments; people are experimenting with it, testing it, and sometimes discarding it. In some fields, such as medicine or disaster response, there are high hopes for AI, yet it is precisely in these areas where training data is often scarce—and, most importantly, where serious errors must be avoided.

For anyone who is sick and looking for an answer to the question of what their symptoms mean, a diagnosis can be helpful. That sounds easier than it is, because it’s not always possible to clearly link symptoms to a specific disease. Individual factors or pre-existing conditions can influence the course of a disease to such an extent that diagnosis becomes difficult. And sometimes the condition is a rare disease, one of the characteristics of which is that there is comparatively little empirical data available about it.

In unserem Alltag sehen wir immer häufiger KI-generierte Bilder und Texte. Zum Beispiel die Darstellung einer Gruppe junger Ärzte. Erfahren wir, dass dieses Bild mit KI erstellt wurde, suchen wir vielleicht nach Fehlern oder Auffälligkeiten. Viele kennen Beispiele für Logikfehler, falsch generierte Hände oder erfundene Fakten in Texten. Forschende machen allerdings auch auf eine Art von Fehler aufmerksam, der oft weniger offensichtlich ist: systematische Darstellungsverzerrung in KI-generierten Medieninhalten.

Die Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU) zählt zu den forschungsstarken Universitäten Deutschlands und genießt auch international eine hohe Sichtbarkeit. Das zeigt das „Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2026“, besser bekannt als ShanghaiRanking.
Im weltweiten Vergleich von rund 2.500 Universitäten erreicht die JMU Platz 202. Damit gehört sie zu den besten zehn Prozent. Auch im nationalen Vergleich schneidet sie sehr gut ab: In Bayern belegt die JMU Rang drei, deutschlandweit liegt sie auf Platz zwölf.
