As part of the Frictionless Data for Reproducible Research project, funded by the Sloan Foundation, we have started a Pilot collaboration with the Data Readiness Group at the Department of Engineering Science of the University of Oxford; the group will be represented by Dr. Philippe Rocca-Serra, an Associate Member of Faculty. This Pilot will focus on removing the friction in reported scientific experimental results by applying the Data Package specifications. Written with Dr. Philippe Rocca-Serra.

See how the Makah Tribe launched an emergency network on EBS spectrum during COVID-19
The Makah Tribe has lived around Neah Bay at the northwest tip of what is now Washington State since time immemorial. It is a breathtaking landscape of dense rainforest and steep hills, far removed from any major urban center.
But for all its beauty, the hills, forests, and remoteness have made it difficult for the community to access quality high-speed Internet – and even cell and radio service.

Kein Wissen ohne Vertrauen
We may have been in lockdown for the first few months of 2020, but that didn’t stop DERC researchers from reaching across the world to launch several projects to study the impact of a global pandemic from a digital ethnography perspective.
Since mid-April, we’ve been in the field (virtually of course), reaching out to participants, gathering data, and generating some much-needed analysis of the social, workplace, and educational implications of COVID-19.
