Am 02.09.2018 fanden bereits zum dritten Mal in Folge die Stadtmeisterschaften im Schwimmen im Freibad Coburg statt. Bei den Stadtmeisterschaften findet eine Mischung von Leistungs- und Breitenschwimmsport statt, die den Teilnehmern interessante Einblicke liefert. Zur Teilnahme eingeladen waren unter anderem alle Bürgerinnen und Bürger der Stadt Münster. In diesem Jahr war erstmals auch das ITM mit einer Staffel vertreten. Auf den 4 x 50M Freistil zeigten alle vier Schwimmer ihr Können und genossen anschließend die hervorragende Atmosphäre des Sportevents.

Die Forscher etablierten und standardisierten eine Methode, um exakte Abstände innerhalb einzelner Biomolekülen bis auf einen Nanometer (1 Nanometer = 10-9 Meter) genau zu vermessen. Dies entspricht einem Millionstel der Breite eines menschlichen Haares. Die neue Methode stellt eine wesentliche Verbesserung einer Technologie namens „Einzelmolekül-FRET“ (Förster Resonanz Energie Transfer) dar, bei der die Bewegung und Wechselwirkung von fluoreszenzmarkierten Molekülen auch in lebenden Zellen in Echtzeit überwacht werden kann.
