Welcome to the Future Readiness Series, where Portulans staff and guest contributors explore the current dialogue surrounding future readiness. Today we kick off our series with an introduction to the concept of future readiness, how it can be measured, and why it is important.
What is Future Readiness? 
Future Readiness as a concept combines the key pillars of technology, innovation, and talent, in order to help us understand what can be achieved if these pillars are optimized.

El proceso se inició hace algunos días en nuestro país. En esta semana, particularmente (del 23 al 27 de agosto), están recibiendo las vacunas personas entre 67 y 78 años y más, que obtuvieron su segunda dosis de Sinovac hasta el 4 de abril de 2021. Académicas de la U. de Chile explican en qué consiste esta inoculación y por qué es tan importante contar con ella.En nuestro país, ya son seis las vacunas autorizadas por el Instituto de Salud Pública (ISP) para su administración en la población.

Solicitar una cita médica y no presentarse genera pérdidas en tiempo y recursos para el sistema de salud, sobre todo en hospitales del sector público. Frente a este problema, un grupo de investigadores del Centro de Modelamiento Matemático de la Universidad de Chile generaron un sistema basado en inteligencia artificial para disminuir las inasistencias a consultas médicas y aumentar la eficiencia en el sistema de salud. El modelo ya fue puesto a prueba durante tres meses en tres recintos hospitalarios del país.Un llamado telefónico, un mensaje de texto o un Whatsapp.
