Diesmal steht ihr Stefan von Westberg Rede und Antwort. Er hat an der JMU Betriebswirtschaftslehre studiert und sein Diplom im Jahr 2006 gemacht.
Herr von Westberg, wie würden Sie einem Laien Ihren Job in wenigen Worten beschreiben?

Die südlich der Sahara weit verbreiteten Matabele-Ameisen (Megaponera analis) haben einen schmalen Speiseplan: Sie fressen ausschließlich Termiten. Ihre Jagdzüge sind gefährlich, denn die Termitensoldaten verteidigen ihr Volk – und setzen dabei ihre kräftigen Beißzangen ein. Es kommt daher häufig vor, dass die Ameisen auf der Jagd verletzt werden.

The recent Woodford panel, Political Polarisation with the DMRC, held on Saturday, 30 December at Woodford, provided a platform for a meaningful exploration of the critical issue of online political polarisation.

The DMRC were again represented at the 2023 Woodford Folk Festival in the recent panel discussion, titled “Denialists, Sceptics, and Contrarians: Sowing Climate Confusion.” This discussion marked a significant contribution to the ongoing discourse on online climate change misinformation.

On Friday 29 December, the DMRC panel AI and Society featured at the Evergreens at Woodford Folk Festival. The session successfully captured the audience’s attention, fostering a thought-provoking dialogue on the challenges and opportunities presented by AI decision-making in various sectors.

Tool Without a Handle: Are You Not Trained?

Hosted by leading experts in digital research from the Digital Media Research Centre and the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Digital Child, the Woodford Children’s Festival welcomed the DMRC’s first Play As A Digital Child workshop on Thursday 28 December at the Puppet Joint, Woodford.

Across history, we’ve observed how gender bias in STEM fields is mirrored in outcomes lacking precise data on women. For example, according to “Verity Now,” a US-based campaigning group striving to achieve equity in vehicle safety, women are 73% more likely to be injured than men because car safety tests are carried out on a male mannequin.

The internet also enables people to practice their right to freedom of opinion and expression and to learn about and access healthcare services.
