DMRC Linkage Success

Congratulations to DMRC Program Leader Professor Michael Dezuanni and Chief Investigator Dr T.J Thomson for their successful ARC Linkage grant led by Associate Professor Tanya Notley (University of Western Sydney). The linkage project team have secured $507,970 funding for their project – Addressing Misinformation with Media Literacy through Cultural Institutions.

Wissen aus der Uni für den Einsatz im beruflichen Alltag – mit dem vom Europäischen Sozialfonds (ESF) und dem Bayerischen Staatsministerium für Wissenschaft und Kunst geförderten Projekt ESF-BuDanu ist das möglich. Die Lehrstühle für BWL und Wirtschaftsinformatik sowie für Künstliche Intelligenz und Wissenssysteme der Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU) schulen im Rahmen dieses Angebots kostenfrei Arbeitnehmende bayerischer Unternehmen und Studierende in ihrem Umgang mit digitalen Daten.

Hält das 49-Euro-Ticket Schritt mit den digitalen Kompetenzen der Bevölkerung oder fährt es einigen Bevölkerungsgruppen davon? Das bidt, ein Institut der Bayerischen Akademie der Wissenschaften, hat dies im Rahmen des „bidt-SZ-Digitalbarometers“ – einer bundesweiten Erhebung zu den digitalen Kompetenzen innerhalb der Bevölkerung – genauer untersucht. Ein Ergebnis: Rund 15 Prozent der Personen in Deutschland nutzen kein Smartphone. Dies betrifft insbesondere ältere und einkommensschwächere Personen.

On 6 February, Professor Elda Brogi took part in a public hearing organised by the Committee on Culture and Education at the European Parliament.

The event brought together experts from academia, civil society organisations and journalists to discuss the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA), a long-awaited legislative proposal aiming at strengthening media pluralism and media freedom in the European Union.

Update: On February 6, 2023, the Wikimedia Foundation was made aware that the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) had been directed to restore access to Wikipedia in Pakistan. Our internal traffic team has confirmed that the traffic on Wikimedia websites from Pakistan has resumed as before. Wikipedia was blocked by the PTA on February 3, 2023.  The people of Pakistan rely on Wikipedia both as a knowledge resource and as a pathway to share their knowledge with others.
