As part of the Open Data Day 2022 special grant category “Ocean data for a thriving planet”, the Open Knowledge Foundation (OKF) supported 4 ocean data events with a grant value of USD $1000 each. Organisations from Argentina, Indonesia, Tanzania, and India were supported to host events and activities during World Oceans Day.

In der Romanistik der Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU) startet zum Wintersemester 2022/23 ein neuer zulassungsfreier Studiengang, der gemeinsam mit der Universität Caen (Normandie) angeboten wird. Deutsche sowie französische Studierende verbringen ihre Studienzeit abwechselnd in Würzburg und Caen. Am Ende erhalten sie zwei gleichwertige Abschlüsse in Deutschland und Frankreich.

Sebastian Klembt, Juniorprofessor für „Light-Matter Interaction and Topological Photonics“ des Würzburg-Dresdener Exzellenzclusters ct.qmat – Komplexität und Topologie in Quantenmaterialien an der Julius-Maximilians-Universität (JMU) Würzburg, zählt in diesem Jahr zu den Shortlist-Ausgezeichneten des „Falling Walls Science Breakthroughs of the Year“. Der Grund: Mit seiner Arbeit am Exzellenzcluster konnte er in Kooperation mit einem israelischen Forschungsteam ein topologisches Lasernetzwerk erstellen.

Mit dem Ludwig-Biermann-Förderpreis ehrt die Astronomische Gesellschaft jedes Jahr herausragende Nachwuchswissenschaftlerinnen und Nachwuchswissenschaftler. Der Preis ist mit 3.000 Euro dotiert und geht für 2022 an Dr. Thomas Siegert vom Lehrstuhl für Astronomie der Julius-Maximilians-Universität (JMU) Würzburg.
Der junge Wissenschaftler bekommt die Auszeichnung im September auf der Tagung der Astronomischen Gesellschaft in Bremen verliehen. Er wurde auch eingeladen, dort einen Vortrag über seine Arbeit zu halten.

Der menschliche Körper enthält 600 bis 800 Lymphknoten. Sie sind darauf spezialisiert, Immunantworten auszulösen. Damit die Lymphknoten über Infektionen im Körper informiert werden, sind sie über Lymphgefäße mit den einzelnen Organen verbunden. Von dort transportieren die Lymphgefäße Flüssigkeit, aber auch spezielle Immunzellen in die Lymphknoten. Diese Immunzellen heißen dendritische Zellen; sie tragen Informationen aus den Organen in die Lymphknoten und geben sie dort an andere Immunzellen weiter.
