Africawide, 24 June, 2026 — The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), in partnership with the Wikimedia Foundation, the nonprofit that operates Wikipedia, are today announcing three journalists from Africa as recipients of the Open the Knowledge Journalism Awards.

Introduction
Rund 150 Teilnehmende kamen im Saal X des Gasteig HP8 zusammen, darunter etwa 50 externe Gäste. Im Mittelpunkt standen die Projekte der Studierenden. 16 Teams aus zehn Digitalisierungskollegs präsentierten ihre Arbeiten in Pitches. Drei weitere Projekte waren an Informationsständen vertreten. Die Themen reichten von digitaler Gesundheitskompetenz und inklusiver Bildung über KI-gestützte Kulturformate bis hin zu Assistenzsystemen für Musikerinnen und Musiker.

Im Mittelpunkt von Laëtitia Farinaccis Arbeit steht die Frage, wie sich einzelne Atome gezielt anordnen und ihre magnetischen Eigenschaften steuern lassen. Dafür sortiert sie atomare Bausteine neu. Durch dieses „Lego mit Atomen“ können sich die Eigenschaften von Materialien tiefgreifend verändern, sodass zum Beispiel ungewöhnliche magnetische Zustände, optische Effekte oder Wechselwirkungen zwischen Teilchen auftreten. Solche Ansätze sind entscheidend für die Entwicklung künftiger Quantentechnologien.

Bronze sensation and team spirit: AAU teams shine at the Unisport Austria Championships
A great success for Klagenfurt University sports: at this year’s Unisport Austria Small-Sided Football Championships in Salzburg, the University of Klagenfurt men’s team secured the bronze medal. The women’s team also put in a spirited performance, despite setbacks caused by injuries.

In der Biologie galten Zytokinine lange Zeit als exklusive Regulatoren des Pflanzenreichs, die dort unter anderem das Wachstum und die Reaktion auf Stress steuern. Dass diese Stoffe auch im menschlichen Organismus eine wesentliche Rolle spielen könnten, war bisher kaum erforscht. Ein Forschungsteam vom Biozentrum der Universität Würzburg hat jetzt jedoch nachgewiesen, dass Zytokinine systemisch in verschiedenen Organen von Säugetieren – und damit auch beim Menschen – vorkommen.

Mit dieser Frage beschäftigt sich Sebastian Klembt, Physiker an der Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg und Forscher im Würzburg-Dresdner Exzellenzcluster ctd.qmat – Complexity, Topology and Dynamics in Quantum Matter. Jetzt hat er den Lehrstuhl für Experimentelle Physik I in Würzburg übernommen.
Bei hochsommerlichen Temperaturen von über 30 Grad eine anspruchsvolle 8,4 Kilometer lange Strecke bewältigen: Das war die Challenge beim WVV-Firmenlauf in den Abendstunden des 18. Juni 2026.
Mit mehr als 150 Läuferinnen und Läufern war die Universität Würzburg so stark vertreten wie noch nie. Erstmals gingen neben Mitarbeitenden auch Studierende für das Uni-Team an den Start – und sorgten umgehend für einige sportliche Highlights.
