Abogada, feminista y defensora de los Derechos Humanos en nuestro país y Latinoamérica, las luchas de Elena Caffarena y su legado, hoy están más vigentes que nunca.Nacida un 23 de marzo de 1903 en la ciudad de Iquique, Elena Caffarena creció en una época donde las mujeres tenían muchos menos derechos políticos, económicos y sociales que los hombres.

Ante el aumento sostenido de contagios a nivel nacional y la presencia en Chile de las variantes de Reino Unido y Brasil, investigadores de nuestro plantel y del Consorcio de Genomas CoV2 Chile, destacan la necesidad de mantener datos actualizados sobre las variantes del virus que están circulando en el país.

La máxima autoridad de la Facultad de Ciencias de la U. de Chile advierte que ya hemos doblado la duración del período más crítico de la primera ola en circunstancias que aún no se llega al peak de contagios. Por esta razón, plantea la necesidad de medidas urgentes y efectivas para contener esta enfermedad.

Javier Ojeda, investigador doctoral del Departamento de Geofísica de la Universidad de Chile, colaboró en la expedición para recuperar 12 sismómetros oceánicos desde el llamado "Punto Triple Chileno", donde convergen las placas de Nazca, Sudamericana y Antártica. Los instrumentos se encontraban sumergidos desde 2019 en las profundidades del Golfo de Penas para registrar datos en esta área.
