Nach über zwei Jahren Entwicklungszeit hat der Nanosatellit SONATE-2 der Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU) in der Nacht auf den 5. März eine große Hürde genommen: An Bord einer SpaceX-Rakete hat er pünktlich um 23.05 Uhr (MEZ) von der Westküste der USA aus seine Reise in den Orbit angetreten. Designt und gebaut wurde der Satellit von einem Team um den Raumfahrttechniker Professor Hakan Kayal.

Last March, UN Women Representative in Lebanon Rachel Dore-Weeks stated that female candidates to the parliamentary elections in Lebanon faced different forms of “digital harassment” compared to their male counterparts. The Global Innovation Index (GII) is a leading tool for understanding country-level determinants of innovation. While the national scale is useful for many researchers and decision-makers, a comprehensive index for use at the sub-national scale is needed to understand the regional differentials in innovation that exist within a country.

Angesichts sich verstärkender multipler Krisen (z.B. durch Klimawandel, Biodiversitätsverlust, Verschmutzung und Pandemien) und tiefgreifenden gesellschaftlichen Wandel (z.B. durch Digitalisierung) haben sich sowohl die globalen wie auch die lokalen Strukturen in den letzten Jahren stark verändert. In diesem Kontext stellen sich vielfältige Fragen zur sozialen Resilienz von Gesellschaften.

Schneller, kleiner, kompakter – die Computerchip-Entwicklung stößt bald an ihre physikalische Grenze. Die Suche nach leistungsfähigen Alternativen gehört weltweit zu den großen Herausforderungen der Werkstoffwissenschaft.
