Abuya Mama Ghufron Al-Bantani, or popularly known as Mama Ghufron, is the founder of the Uniq Nusantara Islamic Boarding School (pondok pesantren) in Malang, East Java, which has recently gone viral on social media. The controversial clip spread on platforms, including Tiktok and Instagram. Some of these clips include him pronouncing “Syududu” which he claims is from Suryani language, asserting that he is able to communicate with ants, and making a video call with the grim reaper.

As the global collective of collaborative and diverse change-makers, known as the Goalkeepers, continues to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals Initiative in South Africa, a recent “Grant Writing 101” session created space for a timely and practical conversation: how to search for and secure the resources needed to turn promising ideas into sustainable impact. The session was a practical and effective effort to support the community as they navigate the complex transition from ideas to implementation.

Erfolg für Forschende aus den Geistes-, Sozial- und Naturwissenschaften sowie der Informatik an der JMU: Die Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) hat ihre Anträge auf neue Forschungsgruppen bewilligt oder bestehende Forschungsgruppen verlängert. Insgesamt richtet die DFG fünf neue Forschungsgruppen ein und fördert diese mit insgesamt 27 Millionen Euro; fünf weitere Gruppen gehen in die Verlängerung.

On June 4th, the Oversight Board (OSB) published its first case decision on disabled accounts, extending “its mandate beyond individual content decisions.” Although it agreed with Meta’s decision to permanently disable the account in case, following egregious violations of the company’s policies, the OSB made it abundantly clear that the focus of its decision is elsewhere. 

Location: Hybrid. Washington, DC metro area required. Regular in-person attendance at events and periodic office visits are expected.
