Earlier this month, the fourth India School on Internet Governance (inSIG2019) was held in Kolkata on 15-17 November, expanding its network of leaders and professionals active in shaping the Internet’s future.

It’s been a busy year for Internet Society Chapters around the world, with members pushing to extend Internet connections to remote areas, involved in public policy, and focusing on cybersecurity. Here are some of the highlights in 2019:

Fragments: Some activists are raising concerns about a fragmented Internet, with two University of Southampton professors writing about four competing versions of the Internet in Wired. The two professors wrote about the same issues for the World Economic Forum earlier this year.

Insgesamt wurden vom Donnerstag, 28.11. bis zum 1. Advent Lesungen, Buchvorstellungen und überhaupt Bücher von ostfriesischen Autoren in Freepsum vorgestellt.

It has been roughly a decade after the days that people first discussed Open Design. It has hitherto evolved from a concept, to a movement, to a viable business choice.

Türkiye’nin en yüksek mahkemesinin aldığı bu yeni karar ışığında Türkiye’de erişimin yakında yeniden sağlanacağını ve engelin kalktığına dair güncel bilgi aldığımızda bu bildiriyi yeniden güncellemeyi umuyoruz. Bilgiye evrensel erişime verilen bu önemli onayı memnuniyetle karşılama hususunda Türk halkına, ve Vikipedi’ye güvenen milyonlarca okuyucu ve gönüllüye katılıyoruz.

Today, the Turkish Constitutional Court has held that the more than two and a half year access ban of Wikipedia in Turkey was unconstitutional. We hope that access will be restored in Turkey soon in the light of this new ruling from Turkey’s highest court and will update this statement if we receive notification that the block has been lifted. We join the people of Turkey, and the millions of readers and volunteers who rely on Wikipedia around the world, to welcome this important recognition for universal access to knowledge.

In November 2019, Tim Berners-Lee and the Web Foundation launched the Contract for the Web, a set of rules designed to address the challenges facing digital communication and participation— from threats to online privacy and security to connectivity and digital inclusion.  The multi-stakeholder effort outlines nine principles for governments, companies and citizens designed to safeguard the future of the Web.
The Foundation has not yet signed on to the Contract and we’d like to address why.
