Student meeting of the Austrian Mathematical Society (ÖMG)

From 21 to 23 September 2026, the Austrian Mathematical Society (ÖMG) student meeting took place in Strobl on Lake Wolfgang. The ‘Early Student Award’ was also presented during this meeting.

This networking event brings together outstanding mathematics students from Vienna, Graz, Linz, Salzburg, Innsbruck, and Klagenfurt once a year, all of whom are at the end of their fourth semester. During the event, each student is presented with a certificate. There were lectures and panel discussions on a wide variety of topics in mathematics. The University of Klagenfurt was represented by Manuel Gebauer and Saí Karandikar. These two students were selected by the university following an application process.
They enjoyed the meeting and the opportunity to exchange ideas: “It’s wonderful to be able to exchange ideas with talented students from other universities. Networking is important on both a personal and an academic level. The lectures also gave us an insight into the wide range of opportunities that will be available to us later on as mathematicians,” says Manuel Gebauer. In summary, such initiatives provide students with a valuable experience that everyday university life cannot offer in the same way. They are particularly valuable for their future careers as mathematicians.
