Academic AI available to students from the winter semester

Aiden/Adobestock (KI generated)Starting in the winter semester 2026/27, the University of Klagenfurt will provide all students with free, data-protection-compliant access to artificial intelligence through “Academic AI”. This will enable students to use powerful AI tools to support their studies.

Academic AI is intended to provide all students with equal access to powerful AI tools, thereby promoting equal opportunities. At the same time, the University supports students in developing skills for the responsible use of AI, which are becoming increasingly important both in academic studies and in professional life.
Data-protection-compliant access
A particular advantage of Academic AI is its data-protection-compliant access: the University has no access to students’ chats or prompts and can neither view nor analyse them. Nevertheless, sensitive or personal data must not be entered into AI systems. Further provisions can be found in the Terms of Use.
Support for your Studies
Academic AI can provide support in many areas of study – for example, when learning, structuring content, drafting texts, programming, or preparing for exams. However, using it does not replacing independent (academic) work. AI-generated content must therefore be critically evaluated. In addition, the applicable AI Policy and the requirements of the respective courses must always be observed.
Basic AI training as a prerequisite
Before using Academic AI for the first time, students must complete approximately 30 minutes of basic AI training. The training is available in Moodle. After successfully completing the modules, students receive a badge that is displayed in their profile.
For questions regarding the basic AI training, please contact cult@aau.at.
Further information on accessing and using Academic AI can be found under Academic AI for Students.
