Andrea Avezzù/Universität Ca' Foscari VenedigCondomini di carne e pudore: The Body in Italian Literature is an international doctoral seminar jointly organized by Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and the University of Klagenfurt, bringing together scholars, postdoctoral researchers, and doctoral candidates to explore representations of the body across literature, philosophy, media, memory studies, and contemporary culture.
Co-moderated by Angela Fabris (University of Klagenfurt) and Alessandro Cinquegrani (Ca’ Foscari University of Venice), the event highlights the growing importance of interdisciplinary and transcultural approaches within the humanities. Through keynote lectures and research presentations, participants investigate how bodies move through texts, histories, technologies, and social spaces — from medieval mysticism to digital media, memory practices, and contemporary trauma narratives.
The seminar features a keynote lecture by Marika Pierdicca (Institute of Cultural Analysis), alongside contributions from four doctoral researchers of the joint doctoral program connected to the University of Klagenfurt (Silvia Corelli, Michele Caterino, Anna Faraon and Francesca Puddu), as well as a postdoctoral researcher from Klagenfurt (Giulia Zava). Their participation reflects the vibrant international and interdisciplinary research environment promoted by the University of Klagenfurt and its strong commitment to fostering emerging scholars in the fields of literary studies, intermediality, transculturality, and media analysis.
Through the active involvement of the University of Klagenfurt and the research activities coordinated by Angela Fabris in the areas of comparative literature, transculturality, and intermedial practices, the event strengthens collaborations between Austrian and Italian academic institutions within a broader European research network. The seminar thus becomes a space where academic exchange, innovative methodologies, and new perspectives on embodiment intersect.
Inspired by Valerio Magrelli’s Nel condominio di carne, the event invites participants to rethink the body as a space of memory, language, vulnerability, desire, and political negotiation.
