Once again this year, USI Klagenfurt was able to send a strong team to Innsbruck for the Unisport Austria Championships in mixed volleyball.
A total of two rounds were played in different groups of three. Based on the rankings of the individual teams, this resulted in a “gold” group (winners of each group), a ‘silver’ group (runners-up of each group), and a “bronze” group (third-place finishers of each group). In the “gold” group, places 1-3 were determined, in the ‘silver’ group places 4-6, and in the “bronze” group places 7-9.
The USI Klagenfurt team lost their opening match against the USI Linz 2 team by a narrow margin in the third set. They also suffered a narrow defeat against Team USI Innsbruck 1. This meant that they went into the next group of three with two defeats. After an unfortunate defeat in the third set against Team USI Innsbruck 2 and a defeat against USI Vienna, they had to settle for the “bronze” group. Here, the team from Klagenfurt prevailed against Team USI Linz 2 in three sets, but lost to Team USI Graz. This meant eighth place for the team from Klagenfurt. Overall, a respectable performance by our team.
First place and thus Unisport Austria champion in mixed volleyball went to the USI Linz 1 team. Second place went to the USI Salzburg team and bronze – thus third place – was secured by the USI Vienna team.
All in all, it was a great event. Thanks to Gernot HUPFAUF and team!
