The European Conference on Computational Optimization 2025 (EUCCO 2025) took place at the Department of Mathematics of the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt from September 29, 2025, to October 1, 2025.
More than 130 participants from 15 countries gathered and presented in more than 120 talks on topics from the focus sessions
- Combinatorial Optimization (organized by Daniel Brosch and Luis Felipe Vargas)
- Inverse Problems (organized by Tatiana Bubba and Tommi Heikkilä)
- Mixed-Integer Optimization (organized by Elisabeth Gaar and Kübra Tanınmış Ersüs)
- Model-Order Reduction for Optimization and Control (organized by Georg Müller and Carmen Gräßle)
- Non-smooth Optimization (organized by Constantin Christof and Livia Betz)
- Optimal and Feedback Control of PDEs (organized by Manuel Schaller and Tobias Breiten)
- Optimization and Machine Learning (organized by Evelyn Herberg and Anna Shalova)
- Optimization in Applications (organized by Imke Joormann and Armin Nurkanović)
- Optimization under Uncertainty (organized by Philipp Guth and Behzad Azmi)
- Shape and Topology Optimization (organized by Sebastian Blauth and Kevin Sturm)
The program also included two invited talks by Jérôme Bolte from Toulouse School of Economics (“A Nonsmooth Differentiation Theory and Some Applications”) and Carola Bibiane Schönlieb from the University of Cambridge and honorary doctor from the University of Klagenfurt talking about “Mathematical Imaging in the Era of AI”.
The EUCCO concluded with a hike in the Bodental valley, where we visited the Meerauge, a dead ice hole formed by a glacier during the last ice age with a crystal-clear, shimmering turquoise pond in the centre with a striking colour that is due to the interplay of light, special chemistry, and extremely clean water. The hike continued to the Märchenwiese, a romantic Alpine meadow, where one has an impressive view of the steeply rising Karawanken mountains, and ended with typical Carinthian dishes at the Bodenbauer hut. This was an excellent opportunity for attendees to combine Mathematical discussion with exploration of the picturesque Carinthian landscape.
The conference was organized by the research groups on Discrete Optimization, Inverse Problems, and Stochastic Optimization.
