On November 6, 2024, our research assistant, Sekar Arum Jannah, contributed to a brainstorming session titled RealityCheck Indonesia. This event marked the kick-off of a project convened by the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI), in partnership with the Development Policy Foundation (DPF) and supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland. The project, RealityCheck Indonesia: Countering Disinformation for Young Opinion Leaders and the Academic Community, aims to create a toolkit to combat disinformation on both regional and global issues.
Around 12 participants from several organizations were involved in the discussion, which focused on identifying key global issues most vulnerable to disinformation, particularly those that are relevant to the Indonesian public. The session addressed critical and consequential global topics, such as high-profile conflicts.
During the session, Sekar shared insights on disinformation related to the Rohingya crisis in Aceh and hybrid threats coming from the South China Sea conflict, which have primarily affected political matters in the Philippines.
As the project has now officially launched, it represents the first step toward achieving the final output: a set of curated smart cards designed to support outreach and academic use within universities and other relevant institutions. The launch and distribution of these smart cards are expected to take place in early 2025.
