Mayree brings several decades of global experience across leadership roles in business, finance, governance, and philanthropy. She is already familiar with the work of the Wikimedia Foundation, as a dedicated donor to the Foundation since 2007. She has served on the Board of the Wikimedia Endowment since 2024 and is Chair of its Finance Committee. The Wikimedia Endowment is a nonprofit charitable organization providing a permanent safekeeping fund to support the Wikimedia projects in perpetuity.
Mayree currently serves on the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bank AG, a Board that embraces a model of elected and selected seats in order to serve many different stakeholders across Deutsche Bank employees, customers and shareholders, similar to the makeup of the Wikimedia Foundation Board. She has also served on the boards of Ally Financial, Taubman, several private software companies, and multiple philanthropic organizations. She has been an executive at Morgan Stanley, a founder of investment management firm Eachwin Capital and a director of the Stanford University Endowment. Mayree holds degrees from the University of Southern California and the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. She is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations and is a primary author of Stanford’s Leading-Edge Stewardship Series, which identifies best practices for corporate and nonprofit boards as well as the attributes of outstanding individual board members.
“Mayree’s extensive experience in governance, philanthropy and leadership will be immensely valuable to the Board and the Foundation,“ said Nataliia Tymkiv, Board Chair. “Mayree will also further strengthen the connection between the Wikimedia Foundation and the Wikimedia Endowment, as we share a commitment to protect the sustainability and future of the Wikimedia projects in a pivotal moment for access to knowledge.”
Mayree will be joining the Board to serve the unexpired part of Esra’a El-Shafei’s term, extended through January 1, 2027, as Esra’a steps off the Board after eight years as a Trustee, while continuing to support the Human Rights team as an advisor in her volunteer capacity. With Mayree’s appointment, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees has 12 members: a Community Founder, six community-and-affiliate-selected Trustees, and five board-selected Trustees, one of whom is also a community member. They include Nataliia Tymkiv, Shani Evenstein Sigalov, Raju Narisetti, Luis Bitencourt-Emilio, Christel Steigenberger, Maciej Nadzikiewicz, Victoria Doronina, Lorenzo Losa, Mike Peel, Kathy Collins, and Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales.
The Wikimedia Foundation’s Board of Trustees oversees the Wikimedia Foundation and its work, and serves as the organization’s ultimate governance body.
