LPD Kärnten/HandlerThe University of Klagenfurt has once again achieved the best result in the ‘Universities/Colleges’ category in the ‘Kärnten radelt 2026’ (‘Carinthia cycles 2026’) campaign: staff and students cycled for the climate and their health, covering 30,159 kilometres and saving 5,320 kilograms of CO₂ in the process!
On 20 October 2026, Landeshauptmann-Stellvertreter (Deputy Governor) Martin Gruber and Landesrat (Provincial Councillor) Sebastian Schuschnig presented awards in the Spiegelsaal of the Carinthian provincial government in Klagenfurt to the educational institutions, municipalities, businesses and individuals who had cycled the most in 2026.
The University of Klagenfurt is delighted to have received this year’s award in the Universities/Colleges category of the ‘Kärnten radelt’ (‘Carinthia cycles’) campaign! We would like to thank our dedicated staff and students who – despite a truly hot summer – have contributed to sustainable mobility with every kilometre cycled as part of ‘Die Uni radelt’ (‘The University gets cycling’).
As an EMAS-certified university, we are committed to integrating climate protection into our day-to-day campus life through concrete measures. Our aim is to encourage even more members of the university community to cycle or use public transport to get to university. This year and next, our focus will be on subsidising public transport tickets for staff and organising regular bicycle servicing sessions on campus. As part of the construction of the new 22nd Century Centre (22CC), we will also be expanding the infrastructure for sustainable mobility.
In this way, in the spirit of a Green Campus, we are creating conditions that facilitate environmentally friendly mobility, promote health and contribute to the protection of our natural resources.
