Days after the Jordanian parliament approved a cybercrime law with disastrous implications for free speech, Iraq put forth its own with even worse consequences. The Iraqi parliament is divided between advocates who believe the law provides more robust protections against cybercrimes and those who see in it an end to freedoms.

Congratulations to Dr. Katharina Esau who has been awarded a Research Fellowship at The New Institute in Hamburg. From September through December 2023, she will collaborate with Prof. Michael Brüggemann and his team in the program “Depolarising Public Debates” and develop innovative methods to measure and compare the level of news polarisation within the media landscapes of Australia, Germany, and other countries.

Mit dem Marcella-Boveri-Preis ehrt das Biozentrum der Julius-Maximilians-Universität (JMU) alle zwei Jahre exzellente Wissenschaftlerinnen zwischen Postdoktorat und Professur – 2023 geht die Auszeichnung an Dr. Sarah Redlich. Am Lehrstuhl für Zoologie III untersucht die Forscherin im Rahmen der Projekte „LandKlif“ und „ConservES“, wie sich der Klimawandel auf die Artenvielfalt in Ökosystemen auswirkt und wie man diese Auswirkungen eindämmen kann.
