Yogyakarta 5 November, 2026 – Bringing together students from Singapore and Indonesia, the Center for Digital Society UGM hosted an educational visit from Methodist Girl’s School MGS and SMA Stella Duce 1. This is the second student visit to CfDS held by Methodist Girls’s School (MGS) Asian Programme (MAP) after 2025. The program aims to deepen understanding of the digital challenges facing young people. During the visit, the students explored “Youth Digital Rights, Gen AI in Education and Digital Safety”.
The event commenced with opening remarks from Syaifa Tania (Director of CfDS), who introduced CfDS’s role and its approach to addressing various issues and developments in the digital sphere. The session continued with a presentation on digital rights delivered by Rizqi Ashari (Research Assistant CfDS). Rizqi explained that participation in digital spaces must be accompanied by a sense of responsibility. In line with this, he also highlighted the use of Artificial Intelligence in education, emphasizing the importance of approaching it critically. According to him, information generated by AI should be reviewed and verified against other sources to ensure its accuracy. The presentations served as a starting point for students to reflect on various digital challenges and develop greater awareness of issues emerging in digital spaces. However, the program was designed not only to deepen participants’ understanding of digital issues but also to provide a platform for exchanging perspectives between students from Singapore and Indonesia.
However, the program was designed not only to broaden students’ perspectives on digital issues but also to serve as a platform for exchanging perspectives between students from Singapore and Indonesia. Through a collaborative project, students brought together their respective perspectives and presented their findings. During the presentations, participants discussed digital practices and approaches to digital protection in Singapore and Indonesia. The topics explored included privacy, freedom of expression, accessibility, protection, and digital policies. The outcomes of their projects will subsequently be developed into research articles to be published on the Center for Digital Society’s website.
This exchange of perspectives serves as a step toward fostering students’ critical thinking skills and awareness in responding to various challenges in digital spaces. The discussion platform facilitated by CfDS not only provides an opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of digital issues but also encourages them to take an active role and articulate their ideas to be shared with a wider public audience.
