As part of the #NoExamShutdown campaign, we’re sending an open letter to authorities in Syria to abstain from resorting to internet shutdowns during exams, and committing to #KeepItOn.
Acknowledging the importance of protecting sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) both offline and online in the West Asia and North Africa region (WANA), SMEX has conducted comprehensive research as part of the Masarouna project, a five-year program that mobilizes the power of young people in the region so they can claim SRHR.
The HIIG and the Department of Media Studies in Bonn invite to an international conference on AI and the future warfare in Berlin. Abstracts can be submitted until 7 July, 2024.

Kaum ein zellulärer Prozess in unserem Körper kommt ohne das kleine Protein Ubiquitin aus: Es orchestriert die Stabilität und Funktion der allermeisten Proteine. Wird es an andere Proteine angeheftet, sind diese oft für den Abbau freigegeben. Eine solche Markierung kann jedoch durch spezielle Enzyme auch wieder rückgängig gemacht werden. Das Enzym USP28 beispielsweise ist bekannt als Stabilisator von Proteinen, die entscheidend für Zellwachstum und -teilung sind – für das Wachstum von Krebs können diese ebenfalls eine wichtige Rolle spielen.

Update: The Iraqi Ministry of Communications announced on May 19 that internet shutdowns will take place in conjunction with the start of the final exams for middle school on May 21. According to the ministry’s statement, the internet will be down from 6:00 AM to 8:00 AM throughout the exams period, based on higher directives and at the request of the Ministry of Education.
The HIIG will co-host a workshop at the 47th German Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Berlin. Entries can be submitted until 1 July, 2024.

Over the past seven months, the Israeli occupation has precisely targeted people, houses, and vehicles in South Lebanon and Beirut’s southern suburb, profoundly impacting everyday life in Lebanon.

Auf die Suche nach innovativen Therapien gegen Krebs geht ein neuer Sonderforschungsbereich, den die Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) jetzt bewilligt hat: Forschungsgruppen der Technischen Universität München (TUM), der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt und der Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU) haben sich dafür zusammengetan. Sie wollen die Rolle klären, die das kleine Protein Ubiquitin bei der Krebsentstehung spielt.
Was arbeiten Absolventinnen und Absolventen der Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU)? Um Studierenden verschiedene Perspektiven vorzustellen, befragt Michaela Thiel, Geschäftsführerin des zentralen Alumni-Netzwerks, regelmäßig ausgewählte Ehemalige.
Diesmal hat Dr. Ulrike Groos ihre Fragen beantwortet. Die Alumna hat an der JMU Kunstgeschichte studiert und ist nun Direktorin der Stiftung Kunstmuseum Stuttgart gGmbH.
