International OfficeAt the invitation of Rector Ada Pellert, delegations from eight universities in the Alps-Adriatic region met at the University of Klagenfurt on 24 September 2026. The focus was on new perspectives for collaboration in research, teaching, and continuing education.

The Cross-Border Networking Event brought university leaders and delegates from Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia together at the University of Klagenfurt. The exchange took place both at the rectorate level and directly within academic departments, with the aim of further developing long-standing partnerships—some of which have been in place for decades—and initiating new joint projects.
Joint initiatives for the region
The discussion highlighted future prospects for new research initiatives and partnerships, as well as closer cooperation in teaching—for example, through additional joint degree programmes and summer schools. Cross-border offerings in continuing education were also on the agenda. The envisaged initiatives are intended to strengthen the participating universities and the Alps-Adriatic region over the long term.
 
Guests included Giulia Fiorani, Rector’s Delegate for Knowledge Transfer at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice; Rector Alex Weissensteiner of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano; Rector Gregor Majdič of the University of Ljubljana; Rector Klavdija Kutnar of the University of Primorska; Rector Donata Vianelli of the University of Trieste; and Rector Angelo Montanari of the University of Udine. The University of Zagreb was represented by Vice-Rector Jurica Pavičić; from the University of Rijeka, Vice-Rectors Irena Vodopija-Krstanović, Sandra Janković, and Marina Šantić took part.
In total, 30 representatives from the partner universities participated in the meeting, alongside 42 scholars from various disciplines.
