DMRC celebrates Townsville’s Creative Underground: A New Photobook Showcasing Community, Innovation, and Collaboration

The DMRC is proud to announce the publication of a vibrant photobook celebrating Townsville’s Creative Underground – a diverse collective of everyday people who play, create, innovate, and socialise in their own time, at their own pace. The book also showcases the places, people, and organisations who support this creative community.
This photobook highlights a novel cross-sector collaboration that connected community ideas with industry resources to turn creative visions into reality. The initiative fostered new skills, meaningful community connections, employment pathways, and a host of positive outcomes that enrich life in the regional city of Townsville. The project was supported by a Queensland Government grant to combat social isolation and loneliness and was led by DMRC PhD Candidate Michael Bromage.

“This is exactly what is needed to bridge the gap between creatives and the more business-orientated. The freedom to pursue our ideas is what helps us grow as a nation.” – Oliver, Townsville’s Creative Underground.
Thank you to the participants, researchers, industry partners, and government stakeholders who made this possible.
