Defensio by Jutta Rath

On October 6, 2025, Jutta Rath successfully defended her dissertation entitled “On the Asymptotic Structure of Powers of Monomial Ideals.” She earned her doctorate as part of the FWF doc.funds doctoral school “Modeling-Analysis-Optimization of discrete, continuous, and stochastic systems.”

In her doctoral thesis, Jutta examines monomial ideals and their “building blocks,” the associated prime ideals. These play a role in various subfields of mathematics, such as modern algebra, number theory, geometry, and combinatorics. Associated prime ideals are generally not stable under exponentiation, but stabilization occurs for sufficiently high powers. A key aspect of this doctoral thesis is the investigation of this “stabilization point.”
The committee consisted of Andrei Asinowski, Carmelo Antonio Finocchiaro (Università di Catania), and Lorenzo Guerrieri (Jagiellonian University of Kraków) and was impressed by the quality of the work.
