Who owns the things we publish, who gets to copy, change and republish them? And who profits from that—didn’t information want to be free? What is free culture? And what does any of this mean in the context of the internet? As a young publishing platform we figured we should really know more about copyright and its alternatives—which is why we are hosting a workshop, for ourselves, and also for you!

Eröffnet sich Menschen eine neue Chance, gibt es einige, die zu der pessimistischen Ansicht neigen: „Das bringt doch eh nichts!“. Sie lassen sich zwar möglicherweise zunächst darauf ein, befinden sich längerfristig aber ständig in einem inneren Konflikt. Problematisch kann so eine Einstellung etwa sein, wenn sie bei psychischen Erkrankungen aufgrund von potenziell übermächtigen inneren Konflikten und Rückzugssymptomen zu Therapieabbrüchen führt, so dass therapeutische Interventionen ihre Wirksamkeit nicht entfalten können.

Together with DATALAB – Center for Digital Social Research at Aarhus University and the Center for Information, Technology, and Public Life at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the DMRC will host a two-day postconference on 26/27 June 2024, following the 2024 International Communication Association conference on the Gold Coast.

Sprawa dotyczy SCHUFA, czyli niemieckiej spółki, która zajmuje się oceną wiarygodności kredytowej (prywatnego biura informacji kredytowej). W oparciu o analizę danych i zastosowanie narzędzi statystycznych dokonuje ona wyliczenia prawdopodobieństwa co do tego w jaki sposób zachowa się dana osoba.

Abstract

Within one week, several cases of personal data breaches affecting Lebanese citizens have been reported, the most flagrant of which was the leaking of public school teachers’ data. 

Teachers were surprised to learn that their personal data, including their names, phone numbers, email addresses, and government salaries and bonuses, had been leaked on a WhatsApp group.

In the days following October 8, Jordanians mobilized in solidarity with the people of Gaza, who, to this day, are still enduring nonstop Israeli bombardment. Demonstrations surged across Jordan, where protesters passionately called for a ceasefire and the revocation of agreements between Jordan and the Israeli occupation. However, their efforts were marred by obstacles and complications, hindering effective organization and communication.

Egypt has faced a notable power outage since last July due to the government’s “load shedding” initiative. Responding to increased electricity demand driven by higher temperatures and widespread use of air conditioning, authorities implemented daily power cuts lasting one to two hours to curb consumption rates.

Executive Summary The Telecommunication (Telecom) sector in Lebanon, often dubbed the country’s “oil,” historically stood as the third-largest revenue-generating sector, contributing over USD 1.2 billion to the state treasury in 2016. Over the years, the sector became infamously known for its slow, unreliable, and overpriced services. This was not always the case, however. This report delves into the factors that have led the telecom sector to its current state of inefficiency and dysfunctionality.
